Homeschool Curriculum

Edenbridge Primary curriculum

There is a Cambridge Primary curriculum framework for each subject – English, Mathematics and Science – providing a clear teaching structure. We use the internal  assessments, assignments and projects to monitor learners’ progress.

English

Cambridge Primary English enables learners to communicate confidently and effectively and to develop the critical skills to respond to a range of information, media and texts with understanding and enjoyment. Learners who follow this curriculum will develop a first language competency in English based on a curriculum designed to be successful in cross – curriculum learning.

Mathematics

Mathematics explores five content areas: number, geometry, measure, handling data and problem solving. This curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject.

Science

This curriculum framework covers four content areas: scientific enquiry, biology, chemistry and physics. Scientific enquiry is about considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning, investigating, recording and analysing data. Environmental awareness and some history of science are also part of the curriculum.

Extra Curricular Activities

Our curricular activities are a combination of sports and self – enhancement programme that helps students to cultivate their natural talent and interpersonal skills. Our swimming programme is affiliated with DSA ( D Swim Academy), the classes are conducted by qualified coaches and all students must attend the swimming programme which will be carried out once a week. Students who excel in this programme will be assigned for future competitions.

Our students will join the yearly, 3 days 2 nights school camp to be an effective communicator, strong problem solver and be independent during the camp. Students are challenged to work in team whereby they are tested on their teamwork skills, problem solving skills and their ability to complete every task within a given period of time.  Some of the activities include obstacle courses and sport activities that challenges the children’s physical abilities and mental activities that includes solving puzzles, planning and executing tasks that are given to them.

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests have been designed to assess learners at the end of the Cambridge Primary. In Edenbridge, we offer the test for English as first language, Mathematics and Science, and give valuable feedback on learners’ strengths and weaknesses before they progress to the secondary level.

The tests are marked in Cambridge International Examination Board (CIE) in UK and each learner will  receive a statement of achievement and a diagnostic feedback report, giving us the detailed information and parents extra trust in the feedback they receive.

Why Choose Cambridge IGCSE ?

Cambridge IGCSE is globally recognised by higher education institutions and employers around the world as evidence of academic achievement. Many universities around the world require a combination of Cambridge International A Levels and Cambridge IGCSEs to meet their entry requirements.

UK NARIC, the national agency in the UK for the recognition and comparison of international qualifications and skills, has carried out an independent benchmarking study of Cambridge IGCSE and found it to be comparable to the standard of UK GCSE. This means students can be confident that their Cambridge IGCSE qualifications are accepted as equivalent to UK GCSEs by leading universities worldwide.

Can students with IGCSE progress to United States of America?

Leading US and Canadian universities require Cambridge International AS and A Levels, but some US and Canadian colleges and universities will accept learners with five Cambridge IGCSE subjects at grade C or above. Check the admissions policy of individual institutions for more information.

Admission to UK institutions

In the UK, Cambridge IGCSE is accepted as equivalent to the GCSE.

When applying to UK universities, it is essential that students can communicate effectively in English and are able to do so in an academic environment. Cambridge IGCSE English Language qualifications are recognised by a significant number of UK universities as evidence of English language competency for university study. We strongly advise students to check the English language requirements of their selected universities and individual departments/faculties prior to submitting an application because these requirements can differ depending on whether you are applying from within the UK, within the EU or EEA, Switzerland, or from overseas.
